STORIES
As a private media group, we take our social responsibility seriously. Today, promoting content and projects which are socialpolitically relevant and supportive of democracy is more important than ever. We also use a variety of formats to make socially relevant issues accessible to a large audience – to raise awareness and shed light on them. As ProSiebenSat.1, we support initiatives that make outstanding contributions to our society.
"WE WANT TO RETHINK NEWS PROGRAMS."
It’s Newstime! Since January 2023, ProSiebenSat.1 has been producing its own news programs for ProSieben, SAT.1 and Kabel Eins as well as all its digital platforms. Who is behind the information drive and why relevant, target group-specific content is more important than ever.
RELEVANT
In these times, communicating relevant and current news throughout Germany has now also become our sociopolitical responsibility. Before the 2021 federal election, schoolchildren asked the chancellor candidates questions on SAT.1's "Kannste Kanzleramt?” Another example is the ProSieben journal "Zervakis & Opdenhövel. Live.", in which we deal with current issues that move people in Germany. What are the advantages of having your own news production? And what's on the agenda for 2022?
TAKING RESPONSIBILITY
We take our responsibility as a media company seriously at all times – not just during the COVID-19 pandemic. That means educating, spotlighting relevant topics through striking formats and creating a safe working environment for our employees.
PUBLIC VALUE HIGHLIGHTS
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ProSiebenSat.1 plays an important role in information and reporting as a media company. For this reason, the Group has taken a number of corona measures and has developed a series of special formats on the topic of corona virus at short notice. These special circumstances changed above all the work of our editors.
"DON'T HATE ME. CELEBRATE ME!"
Against discrimination and for diversity and respect - that's what the TV format "Queen of Drags" stands for. In 2019 it was the first primetime drag show on German television to be broadcast on ProSieben. The show depicts prejudices to a certain extent, so that they can be broken down in the next moment and show that there is often so much more behind a facade than you think you know.
PICTURES IN YOUR MIND
Barrier-free television for all. ProSieben was the first private TV channel to ensure this last year with the audio description of the show "The Masked Singer". We started with the first subtitles in 2000 and last year we already subtitled an average of 22 percent of our shows for the deaf. ProSieben now also offers audio descriptions so that all people with disabilities - including the blind - have the opportunity to consume our content barrier-free.
CLEAN SHOOT!
Protection of the environment and climate is also an increasingly important aspect in film and television production. For this reason, ProSiebenSat.1 has drawn up a catalogue of measures with fourteen goals as part of the "Clean Shoot!” Initiative to promote ecologically sustainable productions. There is still a lot of potential here, especially in terms of electricity consumption and travel for filming and research.
"DON’T JUST VOTE FOR EUROPE. VOTE FOR YOUR EUROPE."
Every vote counts: After running the initiative for the German federal election last year, ProSiebenSat.1 launched the "Geh Wählen!" (Go vote!) campaign in May 2019 encouraging participation in the European Parliament election. Featuring famous faces from its stations as well as influencers, the call to action prompted notably the younger generation to exercise their right to vote. The campaign centered on "Go vote!" commercials on the Group’s entertainment platforms and was flanked by extensive reporting in magazines, news and information formats in the run-up to the election.
"WHAT WOULD I DO?"
The three fictional stories in "lautlose Tropfen", "dein Leben gehört mir" and "ein ganz normaler Tag" depict fates that are shared by scores of victims: Sat.1 uses three new theme-based movies to raise awareness about spiked drinks, stalking and intervening when others are threatened - with support from the federal and state police´s crime prevention units.
WE ARE #REDI!
Since the end of 2018, ProSiebenSat.1 has been supporting the ReDI School initiative as a cooperation partner, which has not only paved numerous students’ ways into the vocational world, but also counted a whopping 500 students at the end of last year. Patrick Keller, Vice President Engineering at ProSiebenSat.1 Tech Solutions, highly advocates for the ReDI school students – not only in terms of his social responsibility as a manager but also in order to give young people with very different backgrounds both a good education and perspective.
WHERE KNOWLEDGE IS KEY: STARTSOCIAL PROVIDES HELP FOR HELPERS
ProSiebenSat.1 employees have been supporting the startsocial competition as panel members and coaches since 2001 – helping social initiatives by contributing their expertise in a wide range of fields. Two of these projects, which support the integration and education of refugees, received an award from patron and Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2019.
"OVERCOMING BOUNDARIES AND BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER – ONLY SPORT CAN DO THAT"
With the YouSport app, fans, clubs and athletes can record and edit the highlights of their competitions and share them online. Through this app, 7Sports is providing a well-deserved platform not just for amateur sports, but also for the – usually voluntary – work performed by local clubs, which extends far beyond the playing field.
"I WANT TO SHOW PEOPLE HOW BEAUTIFUL SIGN LANGUAGE 'SOUNDS'."
17-year-old Vanessa Feller-Jung translates an edition of taff in sign language via Facebook livestream – just one of many examples of how ProSiebenSat.1 continuously expands its range of programming for people with hearing impairment.
"IT’S YOUR CHOICE TO VOTE!"
In "Ein Mann, eine Wahl", Klaas Heufer-Umlauf questioned political positions from different perspectives. Also ProSiebenSat.1’s other initiatives and formats for the 2017 Bundestag election prove that politics and entertainment are definitely compatible
"I HAVE SO MUCH I WANT TO SHARE WITH THE WORLD"
Kassandra Wedel loves performing on stage. Ever since childhood, she’s enjoyed dancing and playing different roles. With her talent and positive energy, the winner of the ProSieben show Deutschland tanzt (Germany dances) has already gained a huge following – an important step forward on the road to greater inclusion.
"ONLINE HARASSMENT"
The anonymity of the Internet lowers the inhibitions that would normally prevent bullying. Without timely intervention, the consequences for the victims can be devastating. SAT.1 is raising public awareness for this pervasive problem with the TV movie Nackt. Das Netz vergisst nie. while also underscoring the station’s long-term social engagement.
"LEAVING THE BIG CITY BEHIND FOR A FARM"
For more than a decade now, ProSiebenSat.1 has supported social institutions such as children’s and youth charity "Die Arche" (The Ark). With the proceeds of RED NOSE DAY donations, The Ark’s first children’s ranch opened in October 2016. In Schulzendorf in the state of Brandenburg, boys and girls learn responsibility by caring for animals and can wind down far from the city.
"PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES UP CLOSE"
"Wir stärken Kinder" (We support children): Sportdeutschland. TV, ProSiebenSat.1 Group’s digital sports channel, partnered with the charity SOS Children’s Village to set up this initiative that gets athletes involved for a good cause. The kids get to train with the pros, in the process learning the value of engagement and team spirit.
